intervals.

Lastly, Old Charley Wash will be drained in the fall to evaluate the
efficiency of capturing fish from the bottomland to allow marking.
All underyearling razorback sucker collected during the draining
effort will be sampled for genetic variability. Fish collected will
be held in the Ouray fish propagation facility through the winter
until genetic analysis can be completed. FOllowing the genetic
analysis results the Biology Committee, in concert with the Genetics
Panel, will determine whether the fish should be returned to the Green
River. Because of the difficulty in obtaining sufficient allozyrnes
from muscle tissue (i.e. Etter Pond controversy) we recommend a
percentage of fish be sacrificed for as thorough as possible analysis.
Because of the concern for killing wild fish, we propose a graduated
formula or some variation of the following:

1. If >100 fish are collected sacrifice 30 fish.

2. If between 100 and 50 fish are collected sacrifice 20 fish.

3. If less than 50 fish are collected do not sacrifice any fish
and instead use non-lethal muscle tissues for genetic
analysis.

In addition to providing genetic information, fish sacrificed will
also provide information on the ratio of fish transferred into Old
Charley Wash and those that accessed the wetland naturally.

VI. Task Description,(FY 1994):

1. Collect larval, juvenile and adult fishes from Old Charley Wash.

2. Monitor temperature, dissolved oxygen, water elevation and
zooplankton density in Old Charley Wash,

3. Evaluate the operation of fish access structure to collect fishes
from Old Charley Wash following draining. Make recommendations
relative to improving the operation of the structure to increase
the efficiency in collecting fish the following year.

VII. study Schedule:

VIII.FY 94 Work
-Description of work: sample fish, evaluate growth, monitor
environmental conditions in Old Charley Wash, and determine potential
competition and predation sources.
-Deliverables: Annual Report
-Budget

Labor-permanent
Labor -seasonal
Travel

CRFP
$17,750
$13,500
$2,000

30

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
