Gray Canyon

;.<'

I

Preliminary cost estimates recently prepared on a high dam
below the mouth of the Price River, to ultilize the 500 feet of
power generating head in the Gray Canyon segment of the Green
River, were higher than anticipated. With these cost estimates the
potential development is not feasible. Before reporting unfavorably,
the Bureau of Reclamation decided to study two damsites farther
upstream in the Gray Canyon section of the Green River as alter-
nate sites to the Price River site. These sites may preclude any
feasible irrigation development proposed in the original plan, but
might provide a feasible development for power, municipal and in-
dustrial water, fish and wildlife, and recreation uses. A reconnais-
sance report is scheduled for completion later in fiscal year 1967.

I

G. POTENTIAL PROJECTS

In carrying out further investigations of projects under Federal
Reclamation Laws in the Upper Colorado River Basin, the Secretary
of the Interior is directed to give priority to completion of planning
reports on 25 projects. Brief descriptions of these projects are to be
found in the Commission's Eighth Annual Report.

The Bureau of Reclamation, so far as limited funds and per-
sonnel will permit, is continuing its studies on these projects. Con-
siderable progress in investigations has been accomplished during
the past year.

1.
