before outside work was suspended for the winter. In the powerhouse,
the contractor has completed second stage concrete encasement of the
draft tube and scroll case for the Unit No.1 turbine and is preparing
to place concrete for the generator foundation. The draft tube and
scroll case have been set in place, aligned, and hydrostatic pressure
tested for the second turbine, Concrete embedment is expected to
commence immediately. Both generating units at Morrow point are
scheduled to be completed during 1970,

Crystal Dam

Crystal Damsite, downstream from Morrow point Dam and
immediately upstream from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Na-
tional Monument, is the site of the third and final dam of the Cure-
canti Storage Unit. A 6.5-mile access road was completed to the dam-
site in November 1965, Completion of Crystal Dam will release Mor-
row point Reservoir from the obligation of meeting the schedule for
diversion of water through the Gunnison Tunnel. This will alloW use
of the second Morrow point generator for firm power-peaking, thuS
adding another 60-megawatts of firm capacity to the power system.
Limitation of funds has delayed start of construction of Crystal Darn.

Recreation facilities

The National Park Service is continuing development of recIt-
ation facilities at Elk Creek adjacent to U. S, 50 on Blue Mesa Lake
and at Iola across the lake and toward the upper end. Boat ramP'
