APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS BY THE <br />UNITED STATES CONGRESS <br />FISCAL YEAR 1970 <br /> <br />President Johnson's budget request for fiscal year 1970 was <br />transmitted to the Congress on January 15, 1969, The total recom- <br />mended to be appropriated to the Bureau of Reclamation for its con- <br />struction program on the Colorado River Storage Project amounted <br />to 826,000,000, The largest items included were $8,000,000 for the <br />Central Utah Project, Bonneville Unit, $6,300,000 for the San Juan- <br />Chama Project, $3,672,000 for the power transmission division, $3,- <br />500,000 for the Curecanti Storage Unit, and $3,000,000 for recrea- <br />tional and fish and wildlife facilities. In addition the budget con- <br />tained $3,500,000 to be appropriated to the Bureau of Indian Affairs <br />for continuing construction of the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project, <br /> <br />The Operation and Maintenance Program for the Colorado River <br />Storage Project to be financed through the Upper Colorado River <br />Basin Fund amounted to $7,551,800. In addition to the operation and <br />maintenance activities on the Flaming Gorge, Glen Canyon, Navajo, <br />and Curecanti Storage Units, the transmission division, and Emery <br />County and Seedskadee participating projects, the 1969 program also <br />provided for the continued purchase of power to cover requirements <br />caused by diminutions in energy generation and capacity impairment <br />created at Hoover Dam powerplant as the result of operations of dams <br />and reservoirs of the Colorado River Storage Project, and provided <br />for quality-of-water studies. <br /> <br />The total fiscal year 1969 0 & M program of $7,551,800 will be <br />funded with $15,000 advanced by the water users and $7,536,800 by <br />revenues received from the sale of electric energy and water. <br /> <br />In cooperation with witnesses from the State of New Mexico the <br />Upper Colorado River Commission on April 1, 1969 submitted testi- <br />mony to the Subcommi.ttee on the Department of the Interior and <br />Related Agencies of the Committee on Appropriations of the House <br />of Representatives in support of construction funds for the Navajo <br />Indian Irrigation Project.
