The principle author
of this report was Jerry J. Vaske, associate professor in the Human Dimensions
in Natural Resources Unit of Colorado State University/s College of Natural
Resources. The report was produced for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in
cooperation with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Both agencies are
participants in the Recovery Program for Endangered Fishes of the Upper
Colorado River Basin, a cooperative program working to recover the fish while
also allowing for future water development. .

The report was based on a telephone survey of residents of Western Colorado
and Eastern Utah. Four different publics were surveyed: elected officials,
anglers, members of environmental organizations and the general public. Survey
results showed fairly strong support for endangered fish recovery. For
example, 66 percent of the respondents stated they support or strongly support
efforts to recover endangered Colorado River fish.

If you would like more information about this surveyor the Recovery Program,
please contact Connie Young, information and education coordinator, at (303)
236-2985, ext. 227.

Sincerely,

dQ

John Hamill
Director,
Recovery Program for Endangered Fishes of the Upper Colorado River Basin
