Bonytail - 1

BONYT AIL

A. Site-Specific Management Actions To Achieve Recovery
The following are site-specific management actions necessary to achieve recovery.
Additional actions that contribute to recovery are identified in the Recovery Implementation
Program Recovery Action Plan (RIPRAP).

Lake Mohave
1. Continue to sample Lake Mohave to evaluate the status of existing wild stocks
and to procure additional bonytail to supplement the hatchery gene pool; establish
a wild genetic refugia of bonytail in Lake Mohave.

Green River Subbasin
1. Capture suspected bonytail from Desolation/Gray Canyons for transport to a
hatchery facility and to supplement the hatchery gene pool.
2. Stock hatchery-reared bonytail in historic habitats to establish new populations;
stocking should not occur on or near habitats presently occupied by humpback
chub to minimize risk of gene swamping by hatchery bonytail.
3. Provide flows necessary to recover the bonytail, including tributaries necessary to
life history; i.e., Yampa, White, Duchesne rivers.
4. Regulate nonnative fish releases in the main river, flood plain, and tributaries
through agreements.
5. Implement nonnative fish control, as needed, to recover the bonytail.

Upper Colorado River Subbasin
1. Capture suspected bonytail from Cataract Canyon for transport to a hatchery
facility and to supplement the hatchery gene pool.
2. Stock hatchery-reared bonytail in historic habitats to establish new populations;
stocking should not occur on or near habitats presently occupied by humpback
chub to minimize risk of gene swamping by hatchery bonytail.
3. Provide and legally protect flows necessary to recover the bonytail, including
tributaries necessary to life history; i.e., Yampa, White, Duchesne rivers.
4. Regulate nonnative fish releases in the main river, flood plain, and tributaries
through agreements.
5. Implement nonnative fish control, as needed, to recover the bonytail.

Gila River Subbasin
1. Stock hatchery-reared bonytail in historic habitats to establish new populations.
2. Procure flows and habitats necessary to recover the species.
3. Develop and implement agreements to regulate stocking and releases of nonative
fishes that may prey on or compete with bonytail.
4. Implement nonnative fish control, as needed, to recover the bonytail.

Lower Colorado River

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
