4-5

1974 to 1976 from the Palisade Labor Camp at river mile 183.2, about 5.0
miles downstrea. of the site.
No juveniles or young-of-the-year razorback sucker are known recently
from the Upper Colorado River. This ERI investigation failed to capture or
observe any razorback sucker, and so the current known distribution of the
species relative to this project is as stated above.

4.6 Sport Fishes.
The only known sport fishes with bag limits reported from this section
of the Upper Colorado River are rainbow trout, brown trout, and largemouth
bass (Kidd 1977; Valdez et al. 1982; Personal communication, Mike Groede,
cnow, Grand Junction CO, July 1984). The densities of these species in the
JH-1 project area are low, although rainbow trout are stocked annually by
cnow into Plateau Creek, which enters the Colorado River at river mile
193.3, and in the main Colorado River upstream of Rifle, Colorado at about
river mile 240. Brown trout are also stocked periodically into these
waters. Largemouth bass are known from several farm ponds and gravel pits
in the Grand Junction area, but the species is considered rare in the main
Colorado River. This ERI investigation yielded a total of 12 brown trout, 1
rainbow trout, and 1 largemouth bass within the 5.4-mile field study reach
above the JH-l project site.(see RESULTS).
