Northern Pike #40:7919 (NP791)

n

NP791 was captured by electrofishing on 23 July 1996 at RM 79.5. Before 12 Aug. 1996
this fish had moved to a long relatively deep channel of the river which contained two
pool habitats and one backwater area, but mostly consisted of run type habitat. NP791
was found on occasion using each of the habitats available in this section of river (Figures
30 and 31). During the course of this study, NP791 never moved from this section of the
Yampa River, in fact, the entire range of this fish during the study was less than 1.0 river
miles.
Northern Pike #40:6135 (NP613)
NP613 was captured by angling on 29 July 1996 from a deep pool habitat at RM 80.1.
This pool was almost 0.2 river miles in length and estimated at greater than 12 feet deep
in some areas. NP613 stayed within this pool habitat through 9 Sep. 96, however was
located near the tail end of the pool on 16 Aug. 96. By 10 Sep. 96 this fish had moved
upstream through a run to a backwater habitat that ran along the north side of the river.
NP613 remained in or near this habitat throughout the remainder of the study (Figures 32
and 33).
Northern Pike #40:5936 (NP593)
NP593 was captured by electrofishing on 26 July 1996 at RM 77.2. The habitat where
this fish was captured was a large slow moving pool with a maximum depth estimated at
about 15 feet. NP593 remained in this habitat until 26 Sep. 96 when it was located in a
pool 0.9 river miles upstream at RM 78.1 (Figures 34 and 35). The river morphology at
this location consists of a long deep run with two areas of pool habitat. This area was
previously described as part of the habitat used by NP791. NP593 was located in the
deep area of the upper pool throughout the rest of the study.
Draft Yampa River Radio Telemetry Report
Miller Ecological Consultants, Inc.
Page 43
December 13, 1996
