CC553 remained in
this general location and habitat until 13 August 1996 when it was located in a pool 1.7
river miles downstream (Figures 15 and 16). Within 16 days this fish had returned to the
pool with submerged boulders where it was captured (RM97.1). It remained at this
location until 24 September 1996 when it was located in a run 0.7 river miles
downstream. Within 15 days the fish had again moved back up to the submerged
boulders. By the end of the study on 24 October 1996, CC553 was located 3.6 river
miles downstream in a large deep pool at RM 93.6. During the recorded movements,
CC553 successfully navigated numerous riffles and runs often when the mean daily
discharge was lowest.
Channel Catfish 440:6732 (CC673)
CC673 was captured by electrofishing in the same location as CC553 (among submerged
boulders in the pool at RM 97.1). CC673 was always located near or within the deep
submerged boulder habitat except on 24 September 1996 when it was found in the run
0.70 river miles downstream (Figures 17 and 18). After this occasion, CC673 could not
be relocated by ground crews, however location by air in late October, but unconfirmed
by ground crews, indicated that CC673 had moved about 4.0 river miles downstream to a
large pool above the mouth of Juniper Canyon (RM 93. 1).
Channel Catfish #40:6532 (CC653)
CC653 was captured by electrofishing at RM 79.5 on 23 Jul. 1996. This fish had moved
upstream by 14 August 1996 to a run habitat located at RM 80.8. This run was a deep
slow moving run with an adjacent upstream pool. Throughout the course of this study,
CC653 was found in either the run or pool habitat.
