SITE 8 (RM 257.1)

Site 8 was a long deep chute channel located along the right bank near Leota Bottom in the Ouray
National Wildlife Refuge.(RM 257.1). This backwater had an area of 1.900 m2 and a maximum depth of
5.1 ft at 1,900 cfs. In January surface ice covered the entire backwater with an average thickness of 1.1
ft. Ice cover was still complete in February with an average thickness of 1.1 ft. This backwater was
suitable habitat throughout the winter.
