I ObseIVed that the young humpback chub used the deep pockets around boulders as cover, staying
close to the bonom during daylight and to escape my presence. However, I saw many young humpback chub
in the midwater portion of the pocketwaters after SUDSeL It appears that these young fish are negatively
phototaxic and rest in the deep pocket waters around large boulders during the day. During crepuscular
periods and probably at night, these fish suspend themselves in slow currents flowing through these
pocketwaters, perhaps to feed. Nearly all of the YOY humpback chub I obseIVed were along the shoreline;
only a few were seen in the mid channel traverine pools of the LCR
