FLOODPLAIN is written on a Microsoft Excel 2002 platform, but can be used on other <br />versions of Excel. The model is constructed to allow users access to entry cells for data input <br />and it provides automated data output. <br />FLOODPLAIN is driven by a series of mathematical relationships that are invoked with <br />input variables specified by the user. Automated output variables that result from these <br />relationships are displayed on the spreadsheet in labeled rows and columns. A single variable <br />input affects all subsequent variable outputs. <br />FLOODPLAIN is write-protected (Le., read-only) to prevent accidental alteration of <br />internal mathematical relationships and linkages. Only the cells identified as data entry cells are , <br />unprotected and allow the user to input data variables to run the model. If the user tries to enter <br />data, or otherwise alter a protected cell, an error message will appear. The user can exit the error <br />message by clicking the "OK" on the message box. <br />4.2 Structure of the Floodplain Model <br />An Excel file is provided with this report that contains five worksheets and seven charts. <br />Printouts of the eight charts are provided in Appendix B. Instructions on how to access and run <br />the model are provided in Sections 4.2 and 4.3. The three worksheets are: <br />Worksheet 1: "Model".-this worksheet contains the primary model FLOODPLAIN <br />and consists of 31 identified steps, including 21 user-specified input variables and 50 output <br />variables. A description of each of the 31 steps in the model is provided in Section 4.3. This <br />worksheet also contains three figures which illustrate hectares and acres of floodplains, number <br />of fish surviving to recruitment, and recruitment rate. A user guidance is provided on the <br />worksheet to facilitate use of the model. <br />Worksheet 2: "Drift".-this worksheet contains a drift sub-model that estimates the <br />downstream drift and entrainment of larvae from the spawning bar. This sub-model has three <br />user-specified input variables and five output variables. A box is provided of 1 00 river miles <br />which allows the user to specify overall survival rate and percentage entrainment at each river <br />mile; this allows the user to simulate a specific river reach with known spawning bar and <br />floodplain locations.
