The Memorandum of Understanding was amended to include an investigation of
the humpback chub in the Little Colorado River (Kaeding and Zimmerman 1982) and
to expand the field investigations to include the Dolores and Gunnison rivers
(Valdez et al. 1982a). Additional funds were provided by the Bureau of Land
Management to include the White River in the field investigations (Lanigan
andBerry 1981).

Laboratory investigations outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding for
the Colorado squawfish included swimming stamina, temperature tolerance and
preferences, total dissolved solids tolerance and preference, and bioassays of
potentially<toxic trace elements. In addition, various contracted studies
were completed on the physical-chemical habitat conditions on the Green and
Colorado rivers~ culture of the rare fishes, disease survey, movements of
Colorado squawfish in the inlet to Lake Powell, and fish stomach content
analysis (Miller et al. 1982, Part 3).

The work of the CRFP continued after 1982 with emphasis on gaps in the
knowledge of the ecological requirements of the four rare fishes. Primary
emphasis was on delineating ecological requirements such as necessary
streamflows, describing movements (especially associated with spawning), and
identifying factors limiting recruitment (Archer et al. 1984).

Coordination/Cooperation Between Agencies

Colorado River Fishes Recovery Team.
