<br />The Colorado River cutthroat trout (Salmo clarki pleuriticus) is the only native trout of
<br />the upper Colorado River basin. In Wyoming, this species is presently found only in a few
<br />isolated, headwater tributaries of the Green, Black's Fork, and Little Snake Rivers.
<br />Twelve streams and two lakes have cutthroat stocks judged to be pure, or essentially pure,
<br />strains of ~. ~. pleuriticus. Populations having slight to moderate traces of hybridi-
<br />zation with other Salmo species occur in an additional 22 waters. This trout currently
<br />utilizes a wide varity of habitats -- lakes, small streams, and beaver dam complexes. The
<br />stream habitat of this species usually contains a limited amount of water -- often average
<br />daily flows are less than 0.14 cm/s. The present status of this trout can be described
<br />as sensitive and further losses to remaining habitat or stocks will very likly warrant
<br />classification of this species as threatened or endangered.

<br />The 300-m- (984-ft-) long creek formed by the spring flow constitutes the sole habitat for
<br />the endangered Kendall Warm Springs dace. Adult dace ranged from 23 mm to 54 mm and
<br />averaged 39 mm in total length. Lentic pockets in beds of aquatic plants located alongside
<br />the main current were used extensively by fry, while adult dace preferred mainstream eddies
<br />and pools. Tiny, apparently newly'hatched fry were observed in the nursery areas at all
<br />seasons, which indicated several spawnings per year. The water temperature of the creek
<br />varied less than 10% from source (29.4C) to its confluence with the Green River. Dissolved
<br />oxygen ranged from 0.55 mg/l at the spring source to supersaturation in the lower creek.
