PRRIP - ED OFFICE DRAFT 6 09/13/2008
PLATTE RIVER RECOVERY IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM
Preliminary 2009 Water Plan Implementation Budgeting
• North Platte Channel Capacity Project
• Preliminary CY 2009 Estimated Budget =$20, 000
Island removal and sprayed phragmites removal to be completed this fall, but
additional monitoring and maintenance to continue. Unliquidated obligations may be
sufficient to fund.
• If additional work downstream to CNPPID Diversion required, this item may need to
be significantly higher.
• Hydraulic Model - North Platte to Columbus
• Preliminary CY 2009 Estimated Budget =$300, 000
Using the soon to be available Lidar topography data, a better hydraulic model of the
Platte River from North Platte to Grand Island should be developed to assist with a
range of upcoming efforts - pulse flow planning, hydraulics associated with sediment
augmentation planning, and potential foundation for sediment transport model. Likely
a one-dimensional, unsteady flow model such as HECRAS, but constructed in a loop
and branches form to capture multiple channels.
• Channel Losses Study
• Preliminary CY 2009 Estimated Budget =$30, 000
• USBR Unsteady Flow model work initiated exploration of this topic and Boyle's
routing model includes approximations, but neither is sufficient for water
management activities needed.
This study would be a more focused investigation on surface water/ground water
interaction in the Platte Channel consisting of a literature review and exploration of
best approach(s).
