Anna Maass, P.E.
Re: Transmittal Letter for Loan Application Package
Redrilling the Park Center Well
Dear Board Members;
Following is a Loan Application Package for the Park Center Water District to
redrill the Park Center Well. As you are aware, usable water is a valuable commodity in
our State. Park Center has been reliant on the Park Center Well as a domestic raw water
source since 1968. The existing well was originally drilled as an oil exploration well in
the 1920's and was abandoned after striking a large artesian water aquifer over 2500 feet
deep. At that time the Bureau of Land Management purchased the well casing and began
selling water to area users in 1937. This well will produce 1 million gallons per day or
1100 acre fee of water per year. The well is still owned by BLM and Park Center has
maintained a lease for all of these forty years, and has first right of renewal when the
current lease expires.
The old well developed a leak that rose to the surface in the spring of 2008. It has
been determined that the old well would be difficult to repair and that an expensive
renovation would probably be a temporary resolution due to the age of the well casing.
Our plan is to drill a new well, in close proximity to the old Park Center well. Original
drilling records, included in this package, will show that the aquifer extends far beyond
where the new drilling will occur, so that we are most assured of a successful drilling.
Not having the use of this water source would have a devastating affect on the
4000 users in the Park Center Water District. We consider this a single source issue
because geographically we are limited in availability of other source waters, particularly
in the winter months when surface water is unavailable to us. It would also be
unfortunate, as the demands on limited water resources in the West are increasing, to
abandon this valuable water resource.
If you have any questions regarding this application, or require additional
information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sin ly, _`~~; ,
Deb ie~ ci£no~~'G~G''~, ~
District 1Vlanager
