Alternative No. 2 was selected to protect the culvert inlet and outlet from under seepage and erosion and to
help lower head loss of the bows. Based on other similar projects, an estimated cost of
approximately $20,000 has been assumed.
Phase 3 - Restorin¢/Stabilizin¢ Failure Areas and Debris Flows
The existing slope failure areas (scarp faces) are extremely steep to near vertical due to the failures and
these areas need to be regraded or protected to prevent further slope failures from occurring and to reduce
the erosion in this area. The failed materials/debris flows situated below the scarp faces need to be removed
and the graded surface stabilized and revegetated to prevent this material from sliding and/or eroding
further downhill and possibly into the creek located near the base of the hill. The following alternatives are
• being considered.
Alternative No. 1 No Action
Alternative No. 2 Remove failed materials/debris from existing hillside, regrade steeper slopes in
failed areas that have not been soil nailed ($110,000 estimated). Place shotcrete facing over the
soil nailed areas ($18,000).
•
Alternative No. 2 is selected to be most feasible at this time. This alternative also provides the greatest
assurance that the debris flow material will not negatively impact the creek below the landslide areas (East
Fork of Troublesome Creek).
Implementation Schedule
The interior culvert pipe bands have been installed as of October 2003. The restoration/reconstruction of
the failed areas and debris flows could possibly be completed during the winter depending on the weather
and site conditions. Installation of concrete head and endwalls may be installed after the need for the
extension of the CMP upstream and downstream has been further evaluated.
Permitting
All easements and right of way have been arranged.
Institutional Considerations
Entities that are, or may be involved in the design, construction, permitting and financing of the project
include:
East Fork Mutual Irrigation Co. -Financing and Project Management
NWCC, Inc. - Geotechnical Investigations and Repair/Stabilization Recommendations
Colorado Water Conservation Board -Financing
East Fork Ditch Repairs Feasibility Study December 2003 Page ~
