Colorado eligible for Federal Disaster Assistance. <br />AUTHORIZATION FOR REPORT <br />Post Flood Assessment reports aze authorized under Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies <br />Program (FC&CE) program. The FC&CE program is financed by appropriation 96X3125 and is <br />authorized by Public Law (PL) 84-99, as amended. These reports are also authorized under the <br />Flood Plain Management Services (FPMS) Program under Section 2C6, 1960 Flood Control Act, <br />PL 86-645. '~'he program is financed by the General Investigations appropriation 96X3121. This <br />report was prepazed under the FPMS program in response to a requesl: for technical support from <br />the Colorado Water Conservation Board. <br />SCOPE OF REPORT <br />This report provides a description of the flooding experienced along tlie Arkansas River and its <br />main tributaries south of Pueblo to Las Animas between Apri129 and May 2, 1999. An <br />evaluation of the flood damages sustained and prevented is provided. Current flood management <br />systems aze described an.d their performance is evaluated. A review of past flood history is also <br />provided. The report also contains recommendations for future study of flood management <br />system improvements based on a cursory evaluation of azeas at risk arid potential for significant <br />flood damages.
