Feasibility of the Rehabilitation
of the
Weldon Valley Ditch Company
Cottonwood Draw Flume
Project Sponsor
The Weldon Valley Ditch Company (WVDC) is a Colorado mutual ditch
company and a non-profit corporation.
WVDC was formed in the late 1800's to construct and operate the
Weldon Valley Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The WVDC
currently has 65 shareholders with 640 shares of stock. The
Company can divert 165 cubic feet of water per second of time
from the South Platte River, at a headgate located about 3 miles
west of Orchard, Colorado.
Based on the State Engineer's diversion records from 1950 through
2007, WVDC has had an average annual diversion of 36,000 acre
feet for all water diverted into the Weldon Valley Ditch or
approximately 56,25 acre feet per share. The State Engineer's
diversion records are found in Appendix A.
Project Service Area
The service area is located in Morgan County, from about 2 miles
west of Orchard to about 3 miles east of Weldona on the north
side of the South Platte River. Weldon Valley water is used to
irrigate approximately 6,400 acres. The water is typically used
to irrigate corn, alfalfa, beans, and sugar beets. A map showing
the general company boundaries is found in Appendix B.
Feasibility Study
We2cfon Valley Ditch Company
Cor.tonwood Draw Blume
September 2008
