Weldon Valley Ditch Company
CWCB Construction Fund Application
Part B
4. Location of the Project
The Cottonwood flume is located approximately three miles northwest of Weldona,
Colorado, in Morgan County. The legal description where the flume is located is the
North'/z of the Southwest %4 of Section 30, Township 5 North, Range 59 West.
5. Description of the Project
The scope of this project is for replacement of the Cottonwood flume with a concrete
siphon. The siphon will be five feet in diameter, capable of carrying 130 cubic feet per
second and will be buried through the bottom of the draw.
The concrete siphon will allow improved delivery of water to the lower one-third of the
ditch system where nearly fifty percent of the company's shares are delivered. The risk
of damage from fire or flood will be removed.
Additionally, the company has applied for a conditional water right for recharge with a
2002 priority. The company has been able, but reluctant, to run water through the
existing flume during cold weather for fear of damaging the flume with ice jams. A
concrete siphon will allow delivery to three additional recharge ponds and use the lower
one-third of the ditch for recharge purposes.
