T A# Sotd A Peat& $asih Roustd ia6ee
Board of Commissioners - 915 10th Street
GREELEY, COLORADO 80631
OFFICERS
BILL JERKE, Chair
JIM YAHN, I" Vice-Chair
FRED WALKER, 2" Vice Chair
LISA McVICKER, Recorder
IBCC REPRESENTATIVES
MIKE SHIMMIN
ERIC WILKINSON
November 13, 2008
Mr. Todd Doherty
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman Street, Room 721
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Todd:
The South Platte Basin Roundtable, through its Alternatives to Ag Dry Up
Subcommittee, over the past year and a half has been working on developing partnerships
with the intent to eventually submit an application to the Colorado Water Conservation
Board for a portion of the fiends available through Alternative Agricultural Water
Transfer Methods - South Platte and Arkansas River Basins Competitive Grant Program.
The culmination of this effort is the application made by the Colorado Corn Growers
Association on September 25, 2008.
The application made by the Colorado Corn Growers Association is a collaborative
effort of several members of the South Platte Basin Roundtable with diverse interests but
having the same goal. That goal being the determination of the best method(s) for
making agricultural water available to those in need while attempting to minimize the
effect on the agriculture producer.
The application was presented at our October 14, 2008 meeting of the Alternatives to
Ag Dry Up Subcommittee and was brought before the entire Roundtable membership
later that same day. The subcommittee voted to recommend that the application receive
support from the Roundtable as a whole, which was done, overwhelmingly in the fiill
meeting of the South Platte Basin Roundtable.
The South Platte Basin Roundtable encompasses the largest agriculture production
area in the State of Colorado; therefore effective, efficient, and conscientious transfer of
agricultural water is of utmost importance to our members. On behalf of the South Platte
Basin Roundtable, I would like to thank you for making the grant available and would
like to encourage you to approve the application made by the Colorado Corn Growers.
Thanks Again.
Respectfully submitted,
AM I/a/M
James T.
