<br />RIVER PROTECTION VVORKGROUP -The River Protection Workgroup ("RPW") and steering
<br />committee continue to meet in order to develop a cooperative river management plan for Hermosa Creek.
<br />The public meetings are the first Tuesday of every month from 6:3 0 pm unti18:3 0 pm. After the RPW
<br />completes work on the Hermosa Creek watershed, this effort may be used as a model to address other
<br />watersheds in the San Juan basin. Ted Kowalski and Linda Bassi, continue to provide support and state
<br />resources towards this process. The next RPW public meeting will be on August 5, at 6:30 p.m. The
<br />Division of Wildlife will be providing a presentation on the cutthroat trout recovery plans. (Ted

<br />DOLORES RIVER DIALOGUE (DRD) UPDATE -The DRD Technical Committee met on July
<br />8, 2008 in Cortez. Attendees included representatives of the Dolores Water Conservancy District,
<br />Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company, The Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, the San Juan Citizens
<br />Alliance, the San Juan Public Lands Center (USFS and BLM), and the CWCB. The group reviewed,
<br />discussed and fine-tuned a draft proposal for the DRD's upcoming request for funding from the CWCB
<br />for developing alternatives to Wild and Scenic designation on the lower Dolores River. The draft Revised
<br />Land Management Plan issued by the San Juan Public Lands Center on December 14, 2007 stated that if
<br />the DRD makes "substantial progress in identifying and securing needed protection of the ORVs, the
<br />recommendations of the group could be used to supplement or replace this preliminary finding of
<br />suitability." The USFS/BLM expressed a willingness to be flexible on the timing of when the DRD can
