Lower San Miguel yVa~er Resource Planning Study
Page 8
than Tabeguache Well No. 2 and the Uravan Well No. 2. Tabeguache No. 1 does have higher
Gross Alpha levels than allowed for drinking water (21pCi/L rather than 15pCi/L), but has less
hardness and dissolved solids than the other two wells.
V.F Eula Belle Mine Nell
The Eula Belle Mine Well is located approximately 1.6 miles up the North Fork of Mesa
Creek. Mesa Creek is tributary to the Dolores approximately 6.3 miles downstream of the
confluence of the Dolores and the San Miguel. The Eula Belle Mine Well is generally 7.25 miles
northwest of the Uravan town site. The well was decreed for 0.031 cfs in Case Number W0325,
in 1971, for municipal and industrial uses. The Division of Water Resources HydroBase database
contains very limited records for the Eula Belle Mine Well usage, stating that the structure was
not usable in 1996, and that water was available, but not taken in 1997-2003. Umetco was not
able to supply any use records, but has indicated that the Eula Bell Well was also dozed over
during the reclamation of the mine sites.
VI. Local Public Input and Consultations
When this study was originally contemplated, then CWCB board member representing
the San Miguel Basin, Don Schwindt, wanted to insure that the study would reflect the views of
the local residents, thus the involvement of SWCD. To insure that the study reflected local
views and opinions, numerous meetings were held with local entities. These included:
• Montrose County (County Manager, staff and County Commissioners)
• San Miguel County (Environmental staff)
• Town of Nucla
• Town of Naturita
• Town of Norwood
• Mustang Water Authority
• Colorado Cooperative Company Ditch
Contact was also made with various special interest groups including:
• The Rimrocker Historical Society
• The Unaweep and Tabeguache Scenic Byways Council
• The Nature Conservancy
• The Colorado Water Trust
• Trout Unlimited
Agency contacts included:
• Colorado Water Conservation Board
• Colorado Division of Water Resources, Division 4 Engineer and staff
• Colorado Division of Wildlife
• Bureau of Land Management
• U.S. Forest Service
Other contacts included:
• Umetco Officials
• Uravan Water Trust Officials (Trustees)
~Iuly 2008
