Executive Summary:
An update on the Fountain Creek Corridor Master Plan efforts will be
reviewed. Specifically, plans for two soon-to -be-started demonstration projects will be
presented:
1. The Colorado Springs demonstration project is being considered for a 40-acre site on
Fountain Creek at the south end of the City. This site will become a ‘Fountain Creek Eco-Fit
Education Park’ with interactive eco-pla y, outdoor music, art, and flood safety
demonstrations and will help the community become more aware of important watershed
information. Plans are to make this a co mmunity built park. Creek improvements will be
made as a part of this project.
2. The Pueblo County demonstration project is being considered for a 300+ acre site on
Fountain Creek in the Pueblo Springs property (b etween the old and new Pinon bridge sites).
This site will become a ‘Fountain Creek Environmental Stewardship Center’ with
educational and activities oppor tunities, wetlands development, creek improvements as a
demonstration for farmers, Arkansas Darter habitat development, creek experimentation
areas, and an environmental stewardship center. It will help local communities to become
educated on watershed issues.
Additionally, holistic concepts fo r stabilizing unstable sectio ns of Fountain Creek, improving
habit, attenuating floods, and improving water quality will be presented.
2
