<br />Feasibility of the Rehabilitation <br />of the <br />Far.mers Pawnee Canal Company <br />Ditch Flow Control Structures <br /> <br />project Sponsor <br /> <br />The Farmers Pawnee Canal Company (FPCC) is a Colorado mutual <br />ditch company and a non-profit corporation. <br /> <br />FPCC was formed in the late 1800's to construct and operate the <br />Pawnee Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The FPCC <br />currently has 110 shareholders with 500 shares of stock. The <br />Company can divert 140.4 cubic feet of water per second of time <br />from the South Platte River, at a headgate located about 3 miles <br />south of Merino, Colorado. <br /> <br />Based on the State Engineer's diversion records from 1950 through <br />2007, FPCC has had an average annual diversion of 27,260 acre <br />feet for all water diverted into the Pawnee Canal or <br />approximately 54.52 acre feet per share. The State Engineer's <br />diversion records are found in Appendix A. <br /> <br />project Service Area <br /> <br />The service area is located in Logan County, from about 1 mile <br />south of Merino to about 4 miles north of Sterling on the west <br />side of the South Platte River. Pawnee water is used to irrigate <br />approximately 10,000 acres. The water is typically used to <br />irrigate corn, alfalfa, beans, and sugar beets.
