especially water diversions from the Colorado, form the foundation for the economic
engine along the Front Range.
So much for philosophizing. Our future will be reliant on economical and
environmentally benign water project development. This does not mean "Not one
More Drop". We have to manage our State's resources as a State, not regions of our
State. Any alternative future needs to recognize this. It probably means that no one
gets everything they want but just maybe everyone gives something to get something.
The State identified several Colorado River water projects and, once raised to the
level of study and discussion, conducted a pogrom to silence the dialogue. These
projects will not go away and, if not openly discussed, could very well be the subject
of State wide referendums. If we reach a crisis, the people will act and there may be
no time to discuss, study, analyze, mitigate or recommend.
We need to move feasibility studies on the Blue Mesa pumpback, the Green Mountain
pumpback and the Flaming Gorge pumpback through this process, we also need to
provide for water and environmental needs for the basins of origin. This is not the
work of speculators! These must be public projects with State support because they
will result in State-wide benefit.
12
I:\INTERBASIN COMPACT COMMITTEEWISIONS FOR COLORADO WATER SUPPLY FUTURE\RESPONSES TO VISIONING AND MARCH MEETING\IBCC REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS.DOC
