July 16, 2008
Mr. Doherty
Intrastate Water Management & Development
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1580 Logan Street, Suite 600
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Doherty:
The Metro Basin Roundtable (BRT) has determined that conducting the South Platte River
Recreation and Habitat Feasibility Study is an important element in the Metro BRT's basin
nonconsumptive needs assessment. The objective of the recreation and habitat improvements
would be to identify areas with the most potential to enhance and increase greenways, public
fish areas, flatwater and whitewater boating, waterfowl hunting, native riparian vegetation, and
the abundance of aquatic life habitat. Proposed improvement options would be developed to
complement the existing habitat, vegetation, and landuse. Biological, physical, and hydrological
characteristics would be examined and improvement options will be identified based on
stakeholder input. The feasibility study would also identify required permits to implement the
proposed improvements. The requested amount to be considered is $150,000.
At the July 9, 2008 Metro BRT meeting, the membership unanimously voted to recommend
funding for the Upper South Platte River Recreation and Habitat Feasibility Study in the amount
of $150,000. There was a quorum present at the July meeting and the vote was unanimous in
favor of the funding request for the South Platte River Recreation and Habitat Feasibility Study.
Attached please find the application and supporting materials for this project. If you require
additional information, please notify me accordingly.
Sincerely yours,
Rod Kuharich
Chair, Metro Basin Roundtable
