Water Supply Reserve Account - Grant Application Form
Foim Revised AIai⢠2007
locations. Since these vessels are in high mountain regions, operation of gates and valves, as well as
measurement recording, is labor intensive.
UAWCD began planning for automation of water and weather data at its six high mountain reservoirs. The
proposed water activity allows for remote operation of gates to control water flow rates. The proposed
water activity includes on-the-ground construction of flow control equipment (weirs/flumes) at 15 stream
locations to increase water exchange opportunities through the use of accurate and time stream flow
measurements. Until Case 06CW32 receives final court approval, the District is operating under a
temporary plan approved by the Colorado State Engineer in August 2007.
UAWCD's structural water activity meets needs dictated by the State Engineer. The Colorado State
Engineer's August 2007 approval letter stipulates that UAWCD cannot expand its water market without the
structural water activity covered in this project, which has been decreed in part as a condition of water
marketing. For instance, the Colorado State Engineer's August 2007 approval letter stipulates the remote
continuous recording of reservoir elevations.
Funding for this project will ensure that UAWCD continues in its role as a pioneer in conjunctive water
management strategies. State-of-the-art field data collection will increase the decision-making framework
system-wide. This is vital to the upper Arkansas region to protect its water supplies and to provide for
anticipated increased water demand due to projected population growth of 72% between 2000 and 2035.
4.
