Issues/Additional Needs:
The project will not directly benefit the general public because the restoration sites occur on private land.
This will indirectly benefit the entire river community by reducing sediment inputs. Staff would like to
discuss opportunities to expand the project into public reaches of the river. This may be achieved by
installing more cost efficient stabilization strictures.
Staff Recommendation:
The application is well prepared and the proposed project furthers the Rio Grande Basin Roundtable's needs
assessment. It also helps addresses a critical water supply need in the basin. Staff recommends approval of
up to $35,000 from the Rio Grande Basin Account and $250,000 from the Statewide Account to help fund
the 2008 Rio Grande Stabilization Project contingent on resolution of the item in the issues/additional needs
section.
All products, data and information developed as a result of this grant must be provided to CWCB in hard
copy and electronic format as part of the project documentation. This information will in turn be made
widely available to Basin Roundtables and the general public and will help promote the development of a
common technical platform.
2
