With a few common objectives in hand, members of the task force have identified a preliminary list of
opportunities and threats to effective water education, some of which include:
Opportunities
• There are many water education programs already available.
• Opportunities for collaboration abound.
• Colorado's aril climate creates high levels of public interest.
• There is strong support from Colorado's State government.
ThrPatc
• The effectiveness of current water education efforts is poorly understood.
• We are lacking a common message.
• There is a lack of coordination between programs focused on water quantity and those focused
on water quality.
Recommendations
The task force is currently working with focus group participants to develop awell-considered set of
recommendations for addressing the opportunities and threats identified in the WETF process. By
providing broadly supported, specific recommendations, we hope this effort will serve as a
springboard for improving the availability and effectiveness of water education in Colorado.
The results of the 2008 Colorado Water Education Task Force initiative will be presented to the
CWCB Board of Directors on July 22, 2008. The recommendations of the task force and all work
products will be available in electronic form on the WETF web pages by August, 2008.
For More Information
Contact Rob Buirgy, WETF Coordinator at rbuirgy@gmail.com or Veva Deheza at
veva. deheza@state. co.us.
Supporting documents are available for download at httpa/www.caee.org/water/overview/.
