funding to purchase equipment for collection or have money for analysis costs. This
new equipment is greatly appreciated by staff and volunteers.
2. Underwrite the $225 costs associated bottles, shipping, analysis, and
reporting for groups that have fiscal barriers to participating in the program.
River Watch spent $7,875 on macroinvertebrate collection analysis. This allowed us to
provide 35 groups the supplies necessary to collect a sample (10% of groups collected
an additional QA/OC sample) that are being analyzed by an outside lab. We provide
the volunteer groups with the collection equipment, the bottles for collection, the
alcohol to preserve the sample, and the analysis costs of the sample.
3. Provide training and technical support for physical habitat and
macroinvertebrate sampling (including an instructional video).
In addition to the 70 seasoned groups trained in River Watch macroinvertebrate
collection techniques, we were able to train an additional 14 new volunteer groups this
fall using equipment purchased through this grant. We plan on training an additional
ten groups this October.
4. Provide professional analysis and public access to the data.
We have an outside lab working on our macroinvertebrate analysis and are expecting
the data back before the end of June 30, 2009. Once this data is received back, we
will validate the data and it will be uploaded and available on our website as soon as
possible.
While we have future plans for data to be downloaded in a report fashion, currently
data can only be downloaded by parameter.
