The existing dam was improved in 2002 to address
an inadequate spillway and severe seepage through the lower embankment. These improvements
included a new spillway, a sand filter blanket along the downstream face of the dam, a perimeter
toe drain with flow measuring devices, rip rap placement along the upstream face of the dam, and
reconstruction ofthe dam crest. Upon filling the reservoir above gauge height 39, which had not
occurred since the 1970's, excessive seepage occurred along the upper portion of the dam. This
project involved the construction of a clay core trench along the upper 15- feet of the dam for
approximately 800-feet, to correct this problem.

Proiect Data

Sponsor: Highland Ditch Company County: Boulder Water Source: St. Vrain River

Terms of Loan: $517,364.83@2.25% for 20-years Substantial Completion Date: Feb.l,2007

Design Engineer: Smith Geotechnical, Inc. - Fort Collins, Colorado

Construction Contractor: Zak Dirt, Inc. - Longmont, Colorado

Average Annual Diversion: 32,550 acre-ft.
