Contractor will discuss PRC comments with the State prior to undertaking any
recommended changes to any of the modeling aspects. After PRC review and comment,
the Contractor will provide a digital copy of the Final Report in MSWord and Adobe
Acrobat PDF formats.
~ It is anticipated that the draft TM for this task will be submitted to the State
approximately 14 months after State approval of the Phase 3 model and that the final TM
will be ready approximately 16 months after State approval of the Phase 3 model.
Task 49: Underground Water Storage Evaluation
Objective:
The objective of this task is to identify and perform an evaluation of potential underground water
storage sites within the South Platte and Arkansas River Basins (Water Divisions 1 and 2), taking
into account technical, economic and ecological considerations.
Discussion:
In May 2006 the Colorado General Assembly passed Senate Bi1106-193.. This bill directs the
Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) to conduct a study of the most feasible
underground water storage sites in the South Platte and Arkansas River Basins and to provide a
report of findings by March 1, 2007.
In 2004 the Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) published the report "Artificial Recharge of
Ground Water in Colorado - A Statewide Assessment" (referred to herein as the 2004 CGS
study). This study identified the larger alluvial and bedrock aquifers in the state with artificial
recharge potential, primarily based on hydrogeologic parameters. The activities described in this
task will build on the work of the 2004 CGS study, other studies, and the knowledge of local
experts to further evaluate locations within Water Divisions 1 and 2 for potential underground
water storage sites. This evaluation will include both the alluvial and bedrock aquifers.
Approach:
Anticipated activities are described below and consist of data collection and technical analyses,
ranking of locations based on evaluation criteria, and reporting. The schedule is described at the
end of Task 49.3. Costs are listed in Table 1.
Task 49.1 Data Compilation and Site Characterization
• Conduct Literature Review
SPDSS_Phase4_gw_SOW_09-15-06.doc 18
