Ogallala aquifer will be made using available published data, Darcy's Law, and engineering
judgment. The estimated bedrock fluxes for this portion of the alluvial model will also be
incorporated as a flux boundary condition using the data centered approach described above
for the Denver Basin bedrock aquifers. The water budget for these areas will be assessed to
determine if changes from the Phase 3pre-development model are required.
• Boundary inflows associated with irrigated areas outside of the alluvial aquifer and seepage
from canals on upland areas outside of the alluvial aquifer will be developed using
information from the Consumptive Use Contractor and coded in the `boundary condition
feature' in the GIS repository. The water identified as canal loss and deep percolation in these
areas will be uploaded and processed using tools developed under Task 50 to identify the
timing, amount and location along the edge of the alluvial aquifer in which these external
fluxes should be applied as inflow. We anticipate that this information being prepared by the
CU Contractor in Phase 3 will be available for this Phase 4 work without any impact to the
Task 48 schedule.
After incorporating these stress and boundary inputs in the modeling GIS repository, model
package files will be generated using tools that were developed in Task 50 for Phase 3 and 4,
and initial model runs will be conducted to verify numerical stability. The model input files
wilt be spot-checked against the initial data sets over the range of values for each type of
aquifer stress to verify that the automated processing was implemented correctly. Aquifer
stress information developed by the Groundwater Contactor will be checked for accuracy
using internal QA/QC guidelines. Aquifer stress information provided by other Contractors
will not be checked for accuracy. However, if data issues are identified then they will be
referred to the other Contractors for resolution. The current Task 48.1 budget does not
anticipate more than a limited checking of input data sets provided by other Contractors.
Deliverables:
• Draft appendix sections will be prepared summarizing all stress inputs for review by the State.
Appendices B, C, D, E, F, G, and H, as described in Task 48.6 below, will be prepared during
this task. It is anticipated each of these appendices will be up to 10 pages in length, not
including figures and tables. These appendices will include copies of reports from other tasks
created by the Groundwater Contractor (Tasks 42, 43, etc.), or other Contractors (Tasks 2, 85,
86, etc.), along with explanatory text identifying additional interpretation and processing.
It is anticipated that the State and the Peer Review Committee (PRC; see Task 51.5) will have
addressed and resolved both conceptual-level and technical data issues to their satisfaction for
all stress inputs during the development of these inputs under previous Tasks for both the CU
Contractor (Tasks 2, 5, 85, 86, etc.) and the Groundwater Contractor (Tasks 41-44, 46, etc.).
After resolving appendix review comments from the State, an external review draft of each
appendix will be prepared for transmittal to the PRC. Comments from the PRC will be
resolved after discussing key items with the State. If the State and Groundwater Contractor
agree that PRC comments warrant a change to certain model inputs (such as external fluxes),
then these will be revised, processed through the Task 50 automated tools and new input files
SPDSS_Phase4_gw_SOW_09-15-06.doc 1 Q
