decision support system, South Platte Mapping and Analysis Program (SPMAP). Recommend a
method and develop up to three (3) locally calibrated crop coefficients for use with the Blaney-
Criddle methodology within the SPDSS study area. Using calibrated crop coefficients, estimate
the potential consumptive use for up to four (4) common crops grown at the key climate stations
identified in Task 53.
Approach:
59.1 Gather and review appropriate data and literature from previous lysimeter studies
representing the SPDSS study area and use results to develop Blaney-Criddle crop
coefficients used by StateCU to calculate consumptive use.
59.2 Gather and review appropriate data and literature from previous studies that developed
Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients to represent local conditions and studies of high altitude
Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients.
59.3 Review CSU's Kimberly-Penman methodology and determine its appropriateness for use
in the calibration of Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients by comparing results to lysimeter
studies.
59.4 Summarize, review, and recommend methodology for the development of locally
calibrated crop coefficients by geographic regions. Develop locally calibrated crop
coefficients using the recommended methodology and estimate potential crop
consumptive use for up to four (4) common crops at each of the key climate stations
identified in Task 53 during the SPDSS study period. The crops may vary depending on
the primary crops grown in the climate station geographic region.
Deliverables:
59.4 A technical memorandum that includes:
- a description of each lysimeter study, the data collection period, a map showing the
geographic area of relevance, and its appropriateness for use in developing crop
coefficients
- a summary of previously developed crop coefficients from Subtask 59.2, their
appropriateness for use in SPDSS, and a map showing their geographic area of
relevance
- a summary of the Kimberly-Penman methodology and results compared to lysimeter
data and Blaney-Criddle estimates
- the recommendation for the development of local Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients
and/or the use of high altitude adjustments for use in SPDSS by geographic region
- locally calibrated Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients for the SPDSS study area
- potential consumptive use estimates at each key climate station for prominent crops
grown in the climate station geographic area.
This technical memorandum is expected to be an appendix in the final Historic Crop
Consumptive Use Report.
A data file of locally calibrated Blaney-Criddle crop coefficients in a format for use by
StateCU.
Task 62 -Review SPMAP, Develop a Plan for SPMAP and StateCU to Coexist Under
SPDSS, and Compare Results
SPDSS Consumptive Use and Water Budget Component 14
