streamflows for the Jelm gage were pulled from the USGS web site
(http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.~ov/nwis/discharge/?site no=06658500).
• Exports
There are no exports from the South Platte River basin. Average annual exports from the North
Platte River and Laramie River basins were identified in SPDSS Task 4. The Task 4 values
include all transmountain exports available in the HydroBase database over the 1950-2002
period.
• Ground Water Ou~ows
Ground water outflows from the South Platte River alluvial aquifer are difficult to determine.
The initial estimate of this water budget component was estimated from information available in
the Bittinger et al., Hurr et al., and CWRRI CR190 studies (15 kaf/yr, on average). Initial
estimates of ground water outflows from the North Platte River and Laramie River basins were
estimated to be zero based on conversations with the Water Commissioners and Division
Engineers in those basins.
Changes in Storage
Initial estimates of zero change in surface water storage and ground water storage were used in
the water budgets. This is considered appropriate prior to further developments for the SPDSS
effort, which will include the modeling of the complex ground water/surface water interactions
within the SPDSS study area. The gathering and development of the data necessary to develop a
ground water model of the South Platte River basin is anticipated to provide a better, and more
detailed estimate of ground water outflows from the basin than were available from the reviewed
studies.
These water budget components, excluding the native vegetation CU component were input to
the StateWB model for the three river basin water budget runs. The initial water budgets were
run to estimate the native vegetation CU based on other recorded or estimated input data. The
inputs to the SPDSS water budget runs and the data extracted from the studies reviewed in Task
82 are summarized in Table 1. The water budget results are also included in Table 1. The water
budget components are graphically represented in Figures 2, 3, and 4, located at end of the
memorandum.
Task83 final.doc 6 of 15 Apri17, 2005
