Section E.8
TO: File
FROM: David M. Frick and Mike Wellborn
SUBJECT: Subtask 11.10 Fill Missing Baseflow Data
Introduction
This memorandum describes the results of Subtask 11.10 Fill Missing Baseflow Data. The
objective of this task was as follows:
Fill gaps in historical baseflows determined under Task 11.9, and verify data for
use by the CRDSS Water Resources Planning Models.
Missing streamflow data was filled using the Mixed Station Method (MSM). This model was
selected based upon the investigations made in Task 10. This method was also used in Task 11.5
to fill missing streamflow data before it could be characterized and used to estimate missing
diversion data. As part of Task 11.5, minor dimensional changes were made to the MSM
program to increase its capabilities, and a graphical user interface (GUI) was written to make it
easier to use. The scope for Task 11.10 required further modifications to the MSM program and
developing a GUI to accomplish the following:
• Read preliminary baseflow files (*.xbg) developed in Task 11.9
• Fill in missing baseflows at gage points
• Generate a report which documents the dependent/independent station selection over time,
and corresponding statistical properties
• Provide results, which allow the data extension to be validated on a monthly, annual, and
basin total basis
• Create five baseflow files (*.xbf) for gaged points in which missing data have been filled
This report documents the development and completion of Task 11.10, from an explanation of
the Mixed Station program, to the filling process, and finally to an assessment of the reliability of
the filled data sets. Deliverables for this task were five baseflow files for the extended period of
record (POR), and draft and final memoranda describing the approach and results of the task.
Appendix E E-110
