5. Annual and monthly statistics were calculated for Phase IIIa and Subtask 11.7 baseflows
at key stream gages.
6. The occurrence and magnitude of negative baseflows were compared to Phase IIIa
baseflows throughout the model.
7. Baseflows were compared to USBR natural flows at key stream gages where USBR data
was available.
The first three steps are described in more detail below. The last four steps are described in the
section "Results".
Assign Indicator Gages
The San Juan model covers all of Division 7 and the Dolores River basin within Division 4.
Hydrologic characterizations were developed in Subtask 11.5 for six indicator gages in these
two basins. The characterizations were compared to see how different they are for the different
gages. Table 1 shows the number of months (out of a possible 1,056 months from 1909-1996} in
which hydrologic condition differed for each pairing of gages. The conclusion drawn was that
indicator gages for streamflow characterization are significantly different, and accuracy maybe
gained by assigning different subbasins to different indicator gages. This conclusion supports
using several indicator gages in this basin, as was scoped for Task 11.7.
Appendix E E-79
