Reservoir Area Approach Recommendations
The GIS approach to reservoir surface area determination is recommended over the decree
approach for the following reasons:
• The purpose of aggregating non-key reservoirs for the consumptive uses and losses
reporting, water budget analyses, and surface water modeling efforts is to determine
evaporation based on reservoir surface area. The GIS approach is the most direct way to
determine reservoir surface area.
