downstream water users. Through the winter storage period of November through May,
a minimal amount of water is collected in the reservoir, which slowly increases the end-
of-month storage level. In most years, Long Draw Reservoir is filled to capacity. During
significant drought years, such as 1977 and 2002, Long Draw Reservoir did not fill to
capacity.
Diversion coding of the historical diversion records indicates that water diverted into
Long Draw Reservoir regularly includes natural streamflow, transbasin diversions
through Grand River Ditch and Laramie Poudre Tunnel, and exchanges with Toe Wright
Reservoir (aka Mountain Supply Reservoir 20), Chambers Lake, and Horsetooth
Reservoir.
Historical reservoir release records indicate that in addition to reservoir releases for the
WSSC System, water has regularly been released from Long Draw Reservoir for
augmentation and substitute water supply plans. Releases to the WSSC System are
primarily delivered for use in the Larimer County Canal. However, through established
agreements, water released for the WSSC System is also used at the Larimer Weld
Irrigation Canal, Fort Collins Pipeline, Poudre Valley Canal, and North Poudre Supply
Canal.
Flood Control/Hydropower Operations: Long Draw Reservoir is not operated for flood
control or hydropower.
WaterSupply&Storage Memo.doc
7of21
Figure 3: Long Draw Reservoir Historical End-of--Month Storage
