On August 8, 1892, the Company
incorporated as a successor to the Larimer County Ditch Company organized in 1880. Today,
WSSC operates an involved system of canals, reservoirs, and transmountain diversions for the
purpose of providing water to users on the eastern slope of the Continental Divide. The WSSC
System (System) spans over 75 miles, from Grand River Ditch located on the Continental Divide
to the tail of the Larimer County Canal located northeast of Greeley.
WSSC and individual farmers under the WSSC System own units of Colorado-Big Thompson
(C-BT) water and Jackson Ditch Company shares. These waters can be diverted through the
WSSC System. With the exception of C-BT water, all transbasin water in the WSSC System is
reusable to extinction.
The WSSC System is grouped into two sub-systems which operate together; the WSSC
Mountain System and the WSSC Plains System. Key structures identified in each of the WSSC
System are as follows:
1) WSSC Mountain System
• Long Draw Reservoir
• Chambers Lake
• Cameron Pass Ditch
• Skyline Ditch
• Grand River Ditch
• Laramie Poudre Tunnel
2) WSSC Plains System
• Larimer County Canal
• WSSC Plains Reservoir System
- Rocky Ridge Lake (WSSC Reservoir No. 1)
- Black Hollow Reservoir
- Long Pond (WSSC Reservoir No. 5)
- WSSC Reservoir No. 3
- WSSC Reservoir No. 4
- Curtis Lake
- Kluwer Reservoir
- Richard Lake (WSSC Reservoir No. 6)
- Lindenmeir Lake
These infrastructure components are owned in whole or in part by WSSC:
Water Supply and Storage Company
PO Box 1584
Fort Collins, Colorado 80522
Phone: (970) 482-3433
WaterSupply&Storage Memo.doc
2of21
