Additional information concerning individual ownership of Iliff Irrigation District acre-
rights is provided in Attachment 1.
Morgan Prewitt Reservoir Company: Represents approximately 261 shares
outstanding, and 19.4% of the total ownership in Prewitt Reservoir. Water from Prewitt
is not subject to limitations on locations of use within any irrigation district. Users
typically receive 16 acre-feet per share and are not assessed delivery losses. Additional
information concerning individual ownership of Morgan Prewitt Reservoir Company
shares is provided in Attachment 1.
Transbasin Rights
Prewitt Reservoir is within the boundaries of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District.
As such, water made available through the Colorado-Big Thompson (C-BT) Project may be used
on lands utilizing water from Prewitt Reservoir. Currently no C-BT water is delivered to the
reservoir.
Administration
Administration of the water rights associated with Prewitt Inlet Canal and Prewitt Reservoir
involve interaction with both Water Districts 1 and 64. In addition to contact with Water
Commissioners in both Districts, the Manager is in contact with the Division Engineer on a
regular basis to determine upstream conditions that may affect the reservoir's operation.
OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
Prewitt Reservoir typically begins to fill each year under its senior water right in October. If
there is significant carry-over storage, Prewitt Reservoir can delay start of storage. North
Sterling Reservoir's senior storage right is senior to Prewitt Reservoir's storage right, therefore
Prewitt Reservoir will begin to divert and store any in-priority water that is not diverted by North
Sterling. Prewitt Reservoir will store through winter and spring months under its senior water
right up to 28,600 acre-feet (current restricted storage level). Prewitt's junior storage right is
used for refill purposes. Any storage water remaining from the previous year is charged against
the senior storage right.
Where to find more information
^ The Water District 1 Meeting Notes and Water District 64 Meeting Notes prepared for
SPDSS Task 3 -Identify Key Diversion Structures contain additional information on
ditch and reservoir operations within these water districts.
^ The Irrigated Acreage Assessment GIS Coverage prepared for SPDSS displays the
boundary of the South Platte Ditch service area, as well as other service area boundries
utilizing Prewitt Reservoir water. GIS coverage is available on the CDSS website
(cdss.state.co.us).
Prewitt Reservoir.doc Page 13 of 15
