Conveyance Efficiency: System-wide conveyance losses in the NPIC System, not including the <br />Fossil Creek Division, are reported to be 16 percent (CWR&PDA, 1987). According to <br />NPIC, system losses throughout the NPIC System are greater than 50 percent. NPIC <br />defines system loss as all possible losses throughout the storage and distribution system <br />including but not limited to conveyance loss, evaporative loss, reservoir seepage, and <br />incidental uses. <br />Return Flow Locations: Return flows from the Munroe Gravity Canal can be intercepted at the <br />Cache la Poudre River, along Water Supply and Storage Company's Larimer County <br />Canal, and in the Dry Creek, Boxelder Creek, Coal Creek, and Indian Creek drainages, <br />all of which are tributary to the Cache la Poudre River. <br />Irrigated Crops: A 1987 study conducted by Colorado Water Resources and Power <br />Development Authority estimated that in 1970, total irrigated land under the NPIC <br />System, not including Fossil Creek Reservoir, was 34,000 acres (CWR&PDA, 1987). <br />There are a total of 28,109 acres irrigated under the NPIC System based on SPDSS draft <br />irrigated parcel mapping. Approximately 70 percent of the lands under the NPIC System <br />are currently flood irrigated; the remaining 30 percent of lands are sprinkler irrigated. <br />Alfalfa hay represents a maj ority of the irrigated area (approximately 40 percent). <br />Additional crops grown under the NPIC System include pasture grass, corn, beans, <br />vegetables, beats, and malt barley. <br />NPIC shareholders do not typically commingle other ditch share water on their lands. <br />HydroBase Data: The monthly data available in HydroBase over the 1950-2002 period of <br />record pertaining to the Munroe Gravity Canal include the following: <br />Total River Diversions <br />• Recorded under WDID 0300905 -North Poudre Supply Canal <br />• Complete record over 1954-2002 (see Figure 4) <br />• Diversions were not made through the Munroe Gravity Canal prior to water year <br />1954. <br />• Available diversions for Munroe Gravity Canal between water year 1954 and 2002 <br />average 34,410 acre-feet per year. <br />Monthly historical diversions through Munroe Gravity Canal are shown on Figure 4 <br />NorthPoudreMemo.doc 14 of 29 <br />
