During periods of drought, such as
during the early- to mid-195O's, the mid-197O's and in 2002 Timnath Reservoir does not
typically fill to maximum capacity. In 1977, Timnath dam was rebuilt to comply with dam
safety regulations. During reservoir reconstruction, no water was stored in the reservoir.
2) Greeley No 2 Ditch (Structure ID 0300929)
The headgate of the Greeley No. 2 Ditch (aka New Cache la Poudre Company Ditch) is located
on the north side of the Cache la Poudre River approximately 2 miles southeast of the Town of
Timnath. The earth-lined ditch diverts direct flow water from the Cache la Poudre River and
conveys storage water released to the ditch through Timnath Reservoir Outlet Canal.
As the Greeley No. 2 Ditch travels in an easterly direction into Weld County, generally
paralleling the Cache la Poudre River, it intercepts return flows from the Larimer and Weld
Irrigation District to the north through Law Drainage, Willow Creek, Eaton Draw, Owl Creek,
Sand Creek, and various pipes carrying return flows from irrigated lands to the north. The ditch
also crosses over Graham Seep, Lone Tree Creek, and Crow Creek; however, no return flows are
intercepted at these locations.
Direct flow water in Greeley No. 2 Ditch is used predominantly for irrigation of lands under the
New Cache System. Greeley No. 2 direct flow water has also been used for augmentation under
NewCacheMemo.doc 7 of 14
