Title
SPDSS Task 5 - Key Structure, Michigan Ditch
Description
The Michigan Ditch has been identified as a key structure for the South Platte Decision Support System (SPDSS) consumptive use and surface water modeling efforts. The purpose of this Task 5 memorandum is to document physical, legal, and operational aspects of those key structures identified.

compared to the other available information sources, the data at Station 06746000
displayed the following characteristics:
• The longest period of record,
• The most complete set of data prior to and throughout the period of study,
• Corresponding monthly and daily diversion data available, and
• Continues to be operated as a recording device through present.
Figure 2
Michigan Ditch
Historic Diversions 1950 - 2002
~,ooo ..
6,000 -~-~ r ~-~-~-~ -~,-~-~--~,-~-~-~ r--~-~-~ ~ ~-~-~-~ r~,-~-~-~ ~-~-~
s,ooo -

w ~~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
4,000 r~~-~_~ _~~-~-~+~-~-~-~+~-~-~r~~-~-~~~
o
~~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~
3,000 - r r r- i- r - r te -i - r- r r -i - r r r- r- i- r I.
i i i i i i t
~ i i i i i
2,000
1,000
0
a
~n ~n ~n ~n ~n m a a a a
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
m m m m m m m m m ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 0 0
o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ o~ 0 0
Year
Annual Diversions for the 1950 to 2002 study period:
Average (1950-2002) = 1,910 acre-feet
Maximum (1997) = 6,381 acre-feet
Minimum (various years) = 0.0 acre-feet.
It should be noted that between 1954 and 1986, the ditch was not fully utilized because of
disrepair or work being performed on the ditch. Therefore, the diversion records for this
period do not reflect long-term historic diversions. As such, future modeling conditions
should be basin on the data from before 1954 and after 1986. The preceding data is
presented in water year due to the availability of data at the time this report was prepared.
If this data is used for future modeling efforts, it is recommended that the data be
analyzed in calendar year. Monthly diversions for Michigan Ditch are presented in Table
2.
MichiganDitch.doc 5 of 9
