Transbasin water from C-BT and/or Windy Gap units is ordered when the City's direct
flow and changed water rights are insufficient to meet daily demands. These deliveries
come from the Southern Water Supply Pipeline out of Carter Lake, which can be
physically
- Delivered directly into the City's potable treatment system,
- Delivered to the St. Vrain Creek, and
• Exchanged upstream to the North Pipeline and/or South Pipeline, and
• Exchanged upstream to Ralph Price Reservoir.
- Transbasin water is generally used at the Pipelines in the early spring, as needed,
prior to the spring runoff.
Transbasin water is also exchanged into Ralph Price Reservoir to top the storage off if it
is not full after the spring runoff.
Other supplies potentially available to the City come from the reuse of its Windy Gap supplies
and its changed water rights. These uses have not yet been exercised but will likely start
occurring in the near future as the City stores these supplies in Union Reservoir and operates the
Union Reservoir exchanges adjudicated in Case No. 86CW395.
Where to find more information
^ Procedures for determining key diversion structures and a list of all key diversion structures
selected is presented in SPDSS Task 3 -Identify Key Diversion Structures Overall Task
Memorandum.
^ Procedures for determining key reservoirs and reservoir systems and a list of all key
reservoirs and reservoir systems structures selected is presented in SPDSS Task 5 -
Identify Key Storage Elements Overall Task Memorandum.
^ Additional information on ditch and reservoir operations within the Water District is
presented in the SPDSS Task 3 -Water District 5 Meeting Notes.
^ Additional information on NCWCD, Carter Lake, Southern Water Supply Pipeline, and C-
BT operations within the Water District is presented in SPDSS Task 5-Northern
Colorado Water Conservancy District and the Colorado-Big Thompson Project
REFERENCES
1) Meeting with Water Division 1, Water District 5 Commissioner Scott Edgar.
970.686.0628.
2) Meeting with City of Longmont Water/Wastewaterbepartment representatives: Dale
Rademacher, Ken Huson.
