Exchanges
Larimer Weld Company operates various exchanges with other entities in Water District 3. The
purpose of these exchanges is threefold; 1) to ensure that all entities in the District can use the
water they are entitled, regardless of the location of their water rights relative to their service
area, 2) to ensure that out of priority diversions in the District are covered, and 3) to ensure that
all water available under legal decree is used before it leaves the District. Larimer Weld
Company exchanges are typically conducted as soon as Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal's large
decree for 571 cfs is out of priority. The main exchanges involving Larimer Weld Company are
as follows:
Larimer Weld Company and NPIC -Worster Reservoir and C-BT Releases
Larimer Weld Company and New Cache Company
Larimer Weld Company and WSSC
Larimer Weld Company and NPIC -Worster Reservoir and C-BT Releases
Water stored in Worster Reservoir is transferred to Halligan Reservoir for use in NPIC's North
Poudre Canal. In exchange, NPIC releases C-BT water from their account in Horsetooth
Reservoir to either Poudre Valley Canal or Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal.
Larimer Weld Company and New Cache Company
The Larimer Weld Irrigation Company cannot get water from Big Windsor Reservoir.
Therefore, the following exchanges take place: Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal diverts water at
their headgate when New Cache La Poudre Canal is in priority in exchange for releases from Big
Windsor Reservoir to New Cache La Poudre Canal. Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal diverts New
Cache Company's C-BT shares in exchange for releases from Big Windsor Reservoir.
Larimer Weld Company and WSSC
Water belonging to Larimer Weld Company is diverted at WSSC's Larimer County Canal. In
exchange, WSSC makes releases from Lindenmeir Lake and Long Pond to Larimer Weld
Irrigation Canal.
Where to find more information
• Structure specific memos have been prepared for Wilson Supply Ditch and Laramie
Poudre Tunnel as part of SPDSS Task 4 -Identify Key Transmountain Diversion
Structures.
• Procedures for determining key diversions structures and a list of all selected key
diversion structures is presents in SPDSS Task 3 -Identify Key Diversion
Structures Overall Task Memorandum.
• Procedures for determining key reservoirs and reservoir systems and a list of all
selected key reservoirs and reservoir systems is presented in SPDSS Task 5 -
Identify Key Storage Elements Overall Task Memorandum.
Larimer&Weld Memo.doc
19 of 20
