Big Windsor Reservoir is the only reservoir under the Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal System
operated by the Larimer Weld Company. Big Windsor Reservoir has an absolute decreed
capacity of 32,909 acre-feet absolute of which 15,620 acre-feet is for refill. Big Windsor
Reservoir absolute storage water rights are presented in Table 10.
Table 10
Big Windsor Reservoir Absolute Storage Rights
Decreed

Source Adjudication Appropriation Administration Amount
Notes
Date Date No. Absolute
(acft)
h
l
C 12/9/1904 7/8/1890 14799.0 11,732 Ori final Fill
ac
e
a
P
Ri
d 12/9/1904 9/9/1901 18879.0 5,557 Original Fill
re
ver
ou 9/10/1953 9/15/1911 35050.22537 15,620 Refill
Source: Colorado Water Rights Tabulation
Ground Water Rights
It is not known if ground water wells are not used for irrigation purposes within the Larimer
Weld Company service area.
Transbasin Water
The ditch company is within the boundaries of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy
District (NCWCD). C-BT water can be delivered directly to the Poudre Valley Canal, the Little
Cache la Poudre Ditch, and the Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal headgates. The Larimer Weld
Company owns some C-BT units, however the total number is unknown. Individual ownership
of C-BT units under the Larimer Weld System is unknown. Water made available through the
C-BT Project can be used on ditch company lands, either directly or by exchange.
Administration
Administration of the water rights associated with the Larimer Weld Company involves
interaction with the Water District 3 Water Commissioner and the Division 1 Engineer.
Storage rights in the Cache la Poudre basin are generally senior to the downstream storage rights
on the South Platte River and are therefore able to divert, in priority, with respect to other active
winter diversions. In normal years, calls from the South Platte do not affect administration in
Water District 3, as water rights in the Cache la Poudre basin are generally senior to South Platte
River water rights.
OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
Operation of the Larimer Weld System is coordinated to optimize the various sources of Larimer
Weld affiliated company water including C-BT, direct flow, and storage for use both within the
Larimer Weld System and through exchange with other entities within Water District 3.
The Larimer Weld Company diverts water to satisfy the crop demand associated with lands
irrigated under the Little Cache la Poudre Ditch and the Larimer Weld Irrigation Canal.
