Louden Ditch Company will get no yield from their transferred Donath Lake water if the
GLIC reservoirs do fill the following spring.
The City of Loveland has acquired, and changed, a majority of the water rights in the Barnes
Ditch and Chubbuck Ditch. The decrees are set up so that if Loveland does not use these
changed water rights, they stay in the ditch of origin. GLIC has historically run the direct
water rights on the City of Loveland's portion. This is likely to change since the City of
Loveland completed its expansion of Green Ridge Glade Reservoir and may start to use the
GLIC credits for storage uses.
The holding pond for the City of Greeley's Boyd Lake treatment plant is filled by gravity
from Lake Loveland at gauge height 25.0 feet (6,197 ac-ft). In order to keep Lake Loveland's
storage level sufficient to convey water to its holding pond, Greeley provides 5,000 ac-ft of
C-BT water for use by Lake Loveland contract right holders every year.
At the end of the irrigation season, GLIC allows the remaining storage portion associated
with GLIC stock to be carried over the winter in its various storage units subject to an 11
percent shrink The cities of Greeley and Evans typically carry over their remaining GLIC
supplies. GLIC allows Greeley to also carry over its C-BT units, in excess of the NCWCD 20
percent carry-over allowance, in GLIC's various storage units. If the carry over water
reduces the legal storage capacity the following spring, any water carried over (excess C-BT
water first, Donath Lake water second, and storage water associated with GLIC stock last) is
re-colored as dividend water and the individual owners lose their sole right to water that was
carried over.
Where to find more information
^ Procedures for determining key diversion structures and a list of all key diversion structures
selected is presented in SPDSS Task 3 -Identify Key Diversion Structures Overall Task
Memorandum.
^ Procedures for determining key reservoirs and reservoir systems and a list of all key
reservoirs and reservoir systems structures selected is presented in SPDSS Task 5 -
Identify Key Storage Elements Overall Task Memorandum.
^ The Water District 4 Meeting Notes prepared for SPDSS Task 3 -Identify Key Diversion
Structures contains additional information on ditch and reservoir operations within the
Water District.
^ The SPDSS Task 5 Memorandum -Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and the
Colorado-Big Thompson Project contains additional information on NCWCD and C-BT
operations within the Water District.
^ The SPDSS Draft Irrigated Parcel Mapping has preliminary irrigated area for the GLIC
Greeley Loveland Irrigation Company Operating Memorandum.doc 17 of 18 January 5, 2005
