Storage Rights
Several storage structures are used within the ditch company for irrigation deliveries or
replacement releases to the Big Thompson River. The storage rights associated with these
structures are summarized in Table 5. As noted above, the storage units under the GLIC system
are anticipated to be modeled together.
Table 5
Storage Rights -Greeley Loveland Irrigation Company
Appropriation Adjudication Administration Decreed
Source Storage Unit Date Date No. Amount Notes
(ac-ft)
L
k 1/14/1893 6/29/1916 15720.0 14,238.7
a
e
Lo
eland 1/14/1893 12/31/1977 46386.15720 14,239 Refill
v Total 28,478
Big k 4/28/1902 6/29/1916 19110.0 8,432.05
Thompson Seven La
es
S
t 4/28/1902 12/31/1977 46386.19110 8,432 Refill
River em
ys Total 16,864
4/28/1902 6/29/1916 19110.0 48,564
Boyd Lake 4/28/1902 12/31/1977 46386.19110 44,031 Refill
Total 92,595
Source: Colorado Water Rights Tabulation
Note: Oklahoma Lake not included above as it is owned and operated by Oklahoma Lateral Company
Reservoir Accounts: All of the storage water in ditch company reservoirs and direct flow water
owned by the ditch company is used for irrigation on lands. There are 300 contract rights
in Lake Loveland, 400 shares in the Seven Lakes Company (Horseshoe Lake), and 1,644
shares in the Greeley Loveland Irrigation Company (Boyd Lake and direct flow rights).
Average historical water allotments have been 38 ac-ft per contract right of Lake
Loveland stock, 19 ac-ft per share of Seven Lakes stock, and 23 ac-ft per share of
Greeley Loveland stock.
Ground Water Rights
Ground water wells are used sparingly for supplemental irrigation purposes within the GLIC
service area. There are very, very few ground water wells under the GLIC system, east of
Milliken on the south side of the system. The irrigation wells were previously augmented under
GASP and are now under CCWCD.
Transbasin Water
The ditch company is within the boundaries of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy
District (NCWCD). As such, water made available through the Colorado-Big Thompson (C-BT)
Proj ect is used on ditch company lands. Currently, irrigators under the ditch company own/lease
4,769 C-BT units, which has reduced significantly from the approximately 30,000 C-BT units
used under the system 30 years ago.
Greeley Loveland Irrigation Company Operating Memorandum.doc 14 of 18 January 5, 2005
